Next festival that comes into my mind while talking about Hindu festivals is Ganesh Chaturthi. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Ganesh (a Hindu God). The celebration normally goes to a stretch of eleven days. Lord Ganesh is considered the giver of wisdom and bliss.
People leave no stone unturned to make the event special year after year. They make huge Lord Ganesh statues often so elaborate and handsomely handcrafted and install them in their homes or podiums at a commonplace. These podiums will be so beautifully decorated that there is often healthy competition going on between people/groups to make theirs spectacular than the rest. Thus, the festival proceeding becomes connoisseurs to every eye.
During the end of the festival, these statues are submerged to a watr body mostly huge river, lakes or to the nearby sea. The proceedings to the submersion is such grant that there will be a huge gathering which parades to the water body singing, dancing and chanting holy mantras of Shree Ganesh.
